About my research

The temporary title is Postwar Showa heritage safeguarding and transmission.

There will be a focus on shotengai for this research, as it englobes buildings, culture, social afbic and specific shops.

The purpose of this research is to:

  • - Understand how people perceive heritage in Japan, as well as their links to their local shopping street.
  • - Study and analyse of different initiatives and projects by Japanese people and Foreigners, with their personal backgrounds and feelings.
  • - Gather effective methods and initiatives that could be adapted to different places and address local issues.
  • - Develop strategies to safeguard the shotengai in the local community.
  • - Create some more strategies, if possible, to both safeguard postwar urban design and guide future urban development planning.
  • - Document this heritage in a database and/or other media.
